Extensive Consultation with Math Specialist Judi Newman Spur Success in Math for a Student in Grade 8-12. What to expect from this Extensive Consultation: • Initial phone call between Judi and parent(s), to talk about student’s math history, to figure out priorities for the session, to go over what student should bring, etc. • 90 minutes session (in person or on zoom) which will include: A. Parent(s) and student and Judi chat for 10-15 minutes. Bringing student in on the discussion started on the phone. B. Work on some math that the student brings, Judi observe quality of homework, find out what kinds of trouble the student is having, answer math questions. 30 minutes. C. Do problems that Judi provides appropriate to the student’s level to let Judi observe gaps in foundation. 30 minutes. D. End with parent(s) coming back in for 10-15 minutes. Answer their questions regarding state of fundamentals, future course plans, other recommendations such as a success inducing approach to homework. • Email report regarding Judi’s observations and recommendations.
